Remembering Rosalynn Carter

Welcome to Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia!
We invite you to come for Sunday School,
stay for church, and get to know our hometown.
Welcome to Maranatha!
“Maranatha” is a combination of two Aramaic words meaning, “Lord, Come!” The early Church greeted one another with this phrase in order to instill a sense of peace and hope during a time of persecution. In speaking these words, early followers of Christ were challenged to see the kingdom of God instilled in their congregations and communities.
In the late 1970’s, Maranatha Baptist Church was founded with the desire to see the Good News of Christ instilled in the small town of Plains, Georgia. The church’s first worship service was held on May 22, 1977. That mission continues today as we seek to be the Body of Christ to this city and beyond. Through meaningful worship, intimate community, transformative discipleship and creative missional work, Maranatha Baptist Church works to proclaim the love of Jesus to a world in need of compassion and grace.
